Clare Kirkman

For 23 years prior to moving to Spain, I worked in the UK Health and Social Care sector. In the early years my role was hands on and in latter years - management. Now I´m dedicated to the profession by way of specialist writing, training and management consultancy. I have always loved to help people.

In May this year, following a pretty serious riding accident, I found myself needing to be cared for – and that was a brand new experience for me.

Assessment of Needs

Ginare Consulting offer assistance to people who need to use care services both in the UK and in Mainland Southern Spain. We offer a comprehensive assessment of care needs and risk assessment, undertaken within the persons own home.

In the UK all care organisations are obliged to undertake an assessment of care needs prior to agreeing to provide a service. In some cases Social Services will also undertake an assessment.

There are several advantages of having a private assessment of needs undertaken by Ginare Consulting:

• Our care needs assessments are comprehensive and cover all aspects of an individuals´ life. We will look at any relevant influences from the past or present. We also allocate time to talk to people about their future aspirations, sending a very clear message that accepting care should not mean a less fulfilling life.



• Our assessment includes an environmental risk and manual handling needs assessment, if required. We provide a full written report on any suggested aids or adaptations that could assist an individual with limited or deteriorating mobility.



• We are not biased as we are not selling a specific care service. We will advise on the correct type of care for a persons situation based on their needs and preferences and if required we will assist in finding a reputable service.



• If involved in finding a care service, the Ginare Consultant will undertake all preliminary checks of the organization, to include obtaining literature, inspection reports and relevant information.

Monthly - Clare also writes a column entitled ´Who Cares In Spain?´and does so for a Malaga based ex-pat magazine. A copy of the column is posted on this site as retirement to the Costa Del Sol is a fast growing trend. We hope the information may benefit some of you in some small way now or in the future.

Clare lives in Malaga, but consults both in Spain and the UK.
